The Washington Animal Rescue League believes that proper pet care begins with education, especially for children. Having a companion animal can be such a fulfilling part of any family’s life, but you need to be sure you find a pet that loves children, and you need to be sure your children know how to properly interact with your pet. To find out which of our available dogs and cats would be great with your child, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 202-726-2556 and speak to our adoptions department directly.
Our Humane Education Program
The Washington Animal Rescue League also has a Humane Education Program, which is an interactive, classroom-based program targeting elementary and middle-school aged children. Staff and volunteers teach children about companion animals and their welfare, encouraging them to make kind, compassionate and responsible decisions. While learning about animals, students also develop their reading and writing skills and gain a greater sense of self. The program’s ultimate goal is to foster the development of a strong sense of empathy, justice and respect for self and for all living beings.
