Our mission—to promote the welfare of companion animals and support the
people who love them through animal rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and
affordable veterinary care—mandates that we respond emphatically to the current economic crisis. Our newly created Project Rescue provides support for families and individuals who are finding it difficult to provide for their pets in this challenging economic climate. Project Rescue consists of the following programs:
The Medical Center
Our Medical Center is the only facility in the area that provides comprehensive veterinary services at a discounted cost—or free of charge, if need be— to the pets of low-income people.
Weekly Low-Cost Pet Vaccination Clinics
The League is increasing the frequency of our low-cost vaccination clinics from monthly to weekly to accommodate the growing demand for these services. Clients receive all standard vaccinations, microchips, and parasite treatment, all at very affordable rates.
Free Spaying and Neutering
Income-qualified clients can have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered free of charge at the Medical Center. The Center also holds monthly free spay/neuter clinics for feral cats and pit bulls, two types of animals suffering most from the ongoing overpopulation crisis.
Rescuers’ Food Bank
The League collects donated food, toys, and equipment for cats and dogs and distributes them to income-disadvantaged guardians free of charge.
Emergency Sheltering
Our Safe Haven Program provides safe and comfortable shelter and medical care to animals belonging to people escaping domestic violence situations or living in other forms of temporary emergency housing. We also constantly take in animals whose guardians have no choice but to re-home their pets.
Behavior and Training Assistance Hotline
The League provides free assistance to people who have questions regarding pet care and training. Without this support, many would otherwise surrender their animals.
